Cricket is quite a competitive game and it’s not that easy to cement the spot in the national team as one needs to consistently keep firing all the cylinders to retain the spot. However, at times, even the consistent players don’t get enough opportunities frequently. As a result, they have no option other than to move to another country to get more playing opportunities, exposure, and experience at the international level.
Recently, local media reports from Pakistan claimed that Pakistani cricketer Sarfaraz Ahmed left Pakistan and shifted his base to the UK with his family. The rumours spread like wildfire on the internet. The veteran wicketkeeper batsman’s last ODI appearance came against South Africa in 2021. His last T20I appearance came against Bangladesh in 2021. He was recently seen playing a Test match against Australia in late December 2023. Unfortunately, he had a forgettable outing in Perth, accumulating only 7 runs in the game.
Sarfaraz Ahmed dismisses rumours of leaving his homeland to join England cricket
Despite making a rebound into the Test set-up after a long time, it is very much certain that the 36-year-old cricketer is not on the selectors’ radar for the ODI and T20I formats. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Ahmed has rubbished the widespread speculations while speaking to Samaa TV. He was taken aback by the recent rumours and he decided to put those speculations to rest by stating that he can’t even think of leaving Pakistan in the first place.
Furthermore, he even urged everyone to confirm the development before spreading fabricated news. “I can’t even think of leaving Pakistan. Confirm before running such fabricated news. Sad to see such news,” Sarfaraz Ahmed added in a statement. The veteran represented Pakistan across formats, making 54 appearances in Tests, 117 appearances in ODIs and 61 appearances in T20Is.

He scored 3031 runs in Tests including 4 centuries and 21 fifties whereas he scored 2315 runs in ODIs including 2 centuries and 11 fifties. On the other hand, he scored 818 runs in the shortest format including 3 fifties. The experienced campaigner will be next seen in action in the forthcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League starting February 17 onwards, wherein he will be leading Quetta Gladiators from the front.
