Suresh Raina was considered one of the finest batters in the shortest formats of the game during his international career. He consistently played match-winning knocks for his side Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League after which cricket fans started calling him ‘Mr. IPL’.

The left-handed batter is currently playing for the India Maharajas in the third edition of Legends League Cricket. After his stellar knock against the World Giants on March 15, Raina was asked if he would make a comeback in the IPL 2023.

“Everyone wants you back in the IPL after your performance tonight in Legends League Cricket,” asked a reporter during the post-match press conference after the game between India Maharajas and World Giants.

“Main Suresh Raina hoon. Main Shahid Afridi nahi hoon. Retirement le chuka hoon (I’m Suresh Raina, not Shahid Afridi. I’ve taken retirement),” Suresh Raina replied hilariously.

It’s worth noting that the former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi announced his retirement five times as he kept on coming out of the retirement playing for his national side again. Shahid Afridi has faced enough criticism for retiring multiple times and then playing international cricket again.

Talking about the game, Suresh Raina played a crucial inning of 49 runs while facing 41 deliveries including 2 fours and 3 sixes. Raina was the highest run-getter for his side and allowed his side to post a competitive total of 136 runs.

Manvinder Bisla too scored 36 off 34 deliveries while all-rounder Irfan Pathan scored 25 off 20 deliveries. Veteran Australian pacer Brett Lee took 3 crucial wickets while giving away just 18 runs.
