Shreyas Iyer has been serving in the position since India dropped Ajinkya Rahane. After Iyer picked up a severe back injury Indian team is looking for a suitable replacement. Shreyas Iyer’s back injury rules him out for three months
The middle-order batter felt a sudden pain in his back during the 4th test between India and Australia. He didn’t bat in that game and was ruled from the follow-up 3-match ODI series.
There was no update about his injury at that time but now after the scans, it is confirmed that the player had to underway surgery.
Iyer to travel abroad for the surgery
It is confirmed that the KKR skipper will be out of action for the next three months. His treatment will consist of surgery which will take place in abroad confirmed by BCCI.
The injury has made him rule out from IPL 2023 and the important WTC final 2023 going to take place in June. Although KKR has named Nitish Rana as a stand-in skipper they are still not able to fill the void of Iyer in batting.
The stability Iyer possesses for both KKR and the Indian team in the middle order is unmatched. India in particular will be affected the most after Iyer’s injury as he was their core batter for the WTC final.

The 28-year-old sustained a back injury which has made him rule out from the much-important game. It could have been Iyer’s first-ever ICC knockout game but due to an unfortunate injury, the player will miss out.

- Ajinkya Rahane – Talking from an experience point of view the former Indian team captain can be the best for the role. Rahane has a fair amount of experience and technique to play in the English condition.
- Sarfaraz Khan – The Maharastra-born wicket-keeper batter can fulfill the void of both Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. He has been in a scintillating form lately in domestic cricket. He was the top scorer of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 scoring almost 1000 runs in the season.
