The Punjab-born batter is following in the footsteps of his batting idol Virat Kohli in every aspect of the game. However this time Gill is about to achieve something which even his master Virat Kohli couldn’t do during his time.

In 2011 against India Hashim Amla broke the record of Pakistan’s Zahir Abbas to become the fastest to reach 2000 ODI runs. The veteran protea batter completed this milestone in just 40 innings and 2 years 318 days to shatter the record.

Now the emerging great Shubman Gill is all set to breach the landmark set by Hashim Amla. The latter only needs to score 83 runs in his next 5 innings to break Hashim Amla’s record. Right now Shubman has scored 1917 runs in his 35 ODI innings.

Hashim Amla leads the list of fastest to 2000 ODI runs followed by Babar Azam

The legendary South African batter ruled the ODI cricket for over a decade with his bat. During his playtime, he became the fastest to 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 aand 7000 runs in ODI cricket. Many came close to beating Hashim’s record but none managed to do it.

The number ODI batter currently Babar Azam also tried to breach Amla’s immortal but he took 5 more innings to reach the 2000 run mark. Not only Babar Azam but Zahir Abbas and Kevin Peterson also completed 2000 runs in 45 innings.

After looking at Shubman’s sublime form it looks like he is going to breach the record of fastest to 2000 runs with ease. The Indian batter will reach the milestone in the Cricket World Cup 2023 in the next month.
