The undesirable has most likely happened for the Indian right-hand opening batsman, Shubman Gill. He had most likely been ruled out of the tests against England. His internal stress injury is the reason for him getting ruled out. Ever since the WTC final concluded, it was said that Shubman Gill is suffering from an injury. Though the type of injury was not specified.

Gill was continuously being monitored by the Team India physio Nitin Patel and the strength & conditioning coach Sohum Desai to keep an eye on his progress. Even though Shubman Gill stayed in England since the conclusion of the WTC final, he could not recover.

Shubman made some posts about his return back home. This made clear the Shubman Gill won’t be available for the England tests. He posted some heartbreak emojis with a picture in his story on Instagram which explained his melancholic situation.

Shubman Gill’s recent form

Shubman Gill’s recent red-ball form is not as great as one could expect after his brilliant debut series against Australia. In the last test series against England at home, he could score only 119 runs in four Tests. Shubman could only manage to score one half-century in the entire series. His average was a mere 19.83. James Anderson made survival difficult for Gill throughout the series and the same would have been the case in England.

Talking about the WTC final, Shubman Gill got a start in one of the innings of the match but could not convert it into a big score. 28 and 8 were his scores in the WTC final.

After the news of Gill’s injury initially came out it was rumored that Prithvi Shaw might be called as his replacement. Also, it was said in some reports that Abhimanyu Easwaran, one of the four standby players, might be called to England.

Though now it is clear from the BCCI side that there won’t be any replacements called for Shubhman Gill. Mayank Aggarwal or KL Rahul will most likely play in place of the injured batsman. Though Mayank Aggarwal could not do much in the 1st Innings of the ongoing practice game, he’s most likely going replace Gill.
