‘Shut up and bat’ – Umpire Richard Kettleborough shuts Stuart Broad during IND vs ENG 5th Test

After a solid 222-run partnership between Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, Team India was in control of the 5^th Test against England after Day 2. Their bowlers then did the job for the team as they rattled the English batsmen with their discipline effort on the field. There was one incident that took place during the first inning of England where Umpire Richard Kettleborough asked Stuart Broad to shup up and bat.

The rescheduled 5^th Test between England and India has moved into its last day and by all means, it is looking England’s match after Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root dismantled India’s bowling line-up with their century partnership. The second inning of England has moved along in a very different manner than the first inning. A video is now going viral of England’s first inning, where Umpire Richard Kettleborough schooled England pacer Stuart Broad.

The video that’s gone viral on the internet is from Day 3 when Broad came onto bat to support Sam Billings on the crease. Broad kept chirping something or the other during his stay on the crease which irked the Umpire Richard Kettleborough who told Broad to focus on his batting and leave the umpiring to him. The umpire did not mince any words while talking to the batsman and asked him to shut up.

“Let us do the umpiring and you do the batting, alright? Otherwise, you are going to get into trouble again. One for the over. Broady! Broady! Get on with the batting and shut up,” Umpire Richard Kettleborough was heard saying to the English pacer.

While team India dominated England for the most part of the game, the English squad bounced back on Day 4 and the match is now highly in favour of the hosts. Chasing a target of 378, the England openers notched up a century partnership, post which India got 3 wickets in quick succession. However, Bairstow and Root looked at ease and notched up yet another century partnership which has given England an edge in the chase.
