South Africa announces 16-man T20I squad for India Tour; Star player returns after 5 years

As the selectors have opted for the usual first-choice names, South Africa Team management named some interesting ones too.

South Africa has appointed a strong 16-man squad for the forthcoming five-match away T20I series against India, which begins on June 9. This ought to be Temba Bavuma’s men’s first T20I endeavour since the 2021 T20 World Cup, and they hope to put on a strong performance. While the selection committee chose the majority of the first-choice names, they also included some interesting names.

Tristan Stubbs has garnered his first Proteas call-up after impressing recently in the domestic domain. Aside from that, pace-bowling all-rounder Wayne Parnell has been called up for his first T20I since 2017. As a result, he’ll have something to assert as well. Anrich Norje, a playmaker, has also returned to the national team after bouncing back from an injury, and he will face great expectations.

Wayne Parnell. a left-arm pacer, coming back to the squad will be looking forward to a great series ahead. Parnell had been out of the international games for the last five years. He last played for South Africa back in 2017, Parnell had been struggling with his form in the recent few years of his play in international matches. Continuing to bounce back, he had been playing for some domestic teams back in the years between 2017-2021.  Parnell will be looking into this as a great opportunity to make a permanent spot in the team.

The majority of the squad’s players, including Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Kagiso Rabada, are currently competing in the currently underway Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and would like to deliver in the national jersey.

“This is the Proteas like we have not seen them in a long time. The injection of the IPL players means that we will have a team that’s ready to fire on all cylinders immediately and has vast experience of the conditions that we will be playing in,” said CSA Convenor of Selectors, Victor Mpitsang, in an official statement.
