Sri Lanka will host a 3-match ODI series against South Africa, starting from the 2nd of September. The ODIs will be followed by a 3-match T20I series and all the matches will be played in the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. With the T20 World Cup 2021 being just around the corner, both teams are into their final preparations ahead of the event. Although they lost the ODI series, the Sri-Lankans would be high in confidence as they’ve recently won a T20 series against India. The South Africans are coming after levelling a 3-match ODI series 1-1 against Ireland.

This tour will be the last outing for the South African team ahead of the World Cup, hence they’d like to finalize their players for the World Cup with the help of this tour. The Sri-Lankan side has to play 2 T20Is against Oman ahead of the World T20 Group Stage.

Squad News
The South African side will be missing the services of some of their main players for the ODIs. Quinton de Kock has been rested, Lungi Ngidi misses the ODIs due to personal reasons and David Miller’s injury is being monitored. Hence these three won’t be playing the ODIs, they do return for the T20s though. Junior Dala has been included for the ODIs and Dwaine Pretorius returns to both squads. Temba Bavuma will be captaining the South African side.

Dinesh Chandimal is making a comeback to the Sri Lanka side in the series against South Africa. Kusal Perera, who had tested positive for Covid-19 has completed his isolation period and is a part of the squad. There are three newcomers in the Sri Lankan team, namely, Lahiru Madushanka, Mahesh Theekshana and Pulina Tharangawhich. Dasun Shanaka will lead the team while Dhananjaya de Silva will be the vice-captain.
