West Indies have just finished the 2-match test series against India and the visitors have clinched the series by winning the first match of the series and the second match ended in a draw as rain interrupted the play. Cricket West Indies have now announced the ODI squad for a 3-match series and their star player Shimron Hetmyer is making a comeback after a long break.
A long break for Shimron Heymyer has now come to an end
Hetmyer last played an ODI match against Australia in July 2021 in Barbados, and his last T20 match was against the Kiwis in August 2022. A 2 year long break from the ODI cricket has now ended and during this period he has missed the qualifiers for the 2023 ODI World Cup, as he was left out of the squad due to his inconsistent performance in the ODI format.
“We welcome Oshane and Shimron back into the group. Both have played at the international level before, with some success, and we believe they will fit well into the set-up,” Haynes said.
“Oshane brings pace and is a potential wicket-taker with the new ball. Shimron’s style of batting will offer a lot especially in the middle stage of the innings and he is also a potential ‘finisher’.”
Hetmyer had a decent IPL season for Rajasthan Royals as he scored 299 runs in 13 appearances, the only reason for his comeback is that Wicket-Keeper batsaman Nicholas Pooran is unavailable for the series. Apart from Shimron Hetmyer the 26-years old pacer Oshane Thomas is also making a comeback after a long break.
