Star Player to Miss start of IPL 2024 owing to Domestic Cricket commitment

Matthew Wade scored 157 runs in 10 games for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022.

The highly-anticipated IPL 2024 edition is just less than a fortnight away from going all guns blazing, with Chennai Super Kings locking horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament opener on March 22, Friday at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It is very much certain the players of the respective teams will assemble at their respective camps to begin their preparations for the cricketing carnival.

Meanwhile, in the latest development, Gujarat Titans’ player Matthew Wade will be out for two or three games of IPL 2024. The wicketkeeper-batsman was a part of the team’s line-up in IPL 2022 where he played 10 games, scoring 157 runs at a strike rate of 113 and an average of 15.70. After a shoddy season with the bat, he didn’t play even a single game for the franchise in IPL 2023.

Matthew Wade to feature in the Sheffield Shield final for Tasmania

Gujarat Titans preferred Wriddhiman Saha over Wriddhiman Saha as the wicketkeeper-batsman for the IPL 2023 season. Saha grabbed the opportunity in both hands by performing pretty decently well, scoring 371 runs at a strike rate of over 130 including two fifties. It remains to be seen what the future holds in store for Matthew Wade. The Australian international will be missing the first two games as he will be featuring in the Sheffield Shield final for Tasmania from March 21 to 25.

“He’s spoken with his IPL franchise and they’re happy to allow him to stay here, which probably equates to him potentially missing their first game. We feel very fortunate to have someone of Matt’s ilk coming back into our group, and his experience and his performances at the back end of our season,” said Tasmania head coach Jeff Vaughan told reporters in Hobart.
