Stuart Broad retirement news has stunned cricket fans across the globe as the English pacer has looked in supreme form in the ongoing Ashes 2023 series. After his retirement, Broad has reacted to the impact of Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes smashed off his bowling during the 2007 T20 World Cup on his career.

After the end of play on Day 3 of the fifth Ashes 2023 test at the Kennington Oval, Broad announced that it will be the last test of his glorious career. Cricket fans were certainly not expecting him to hang up his boots after showing some brilliant form against the Aussies throughout the series.

Team India’s star batter Yuvraj Singh had smashed Stuart Broad for 6 sixes in an over during the 2007 T20 World Cup. After announcing his retirement, Broad was asked about that forgetful game by one of the reporters and the English pacer termed it as a vital moment in his career.

“Yeah, it was obviously a pretty tough day, what would I have been, 21, 22? I learnt a lot, I pretty much based a whole mental routine through that experience, knowing that I was left very short as an international performer. I’d rushed my preparation, I didn’t have any pre-ball routine, I didn’t have any focus,” Broad said in the press conference.

“I started building my ‘warrior mode’ that I call it after that experience. Ultimately, I wish that didn’t happen. What really helped me that it was a dead rubber, so I didn’t feel like I’d knocked us out of the World Cup. But I think it steeled me up to make me the competitor I am to this day, and has driven me forward a huge amount,” the experienced pacer further added.

“You go through massive peaks and troughs, and when you look at someone like Stokesy’s (Ben Stokes) career, he’s done that sort of thing as well. Ultimately, it’s the bouncebackability, and that ability to be able to put poor days behind you. Certainly one thing I know over past 15 or 16 years, is that you will have more bad days than good days in cricket, so you have to deal with them to make sure your good days can flourish,” Broad discussed.

Till now, Stuart Broad has taken 602 wickets in 167 tests and has been the mainstay in the English bowling unit for the last 17 years. He will now be hoping to end his career on a high note as the English side is in the driver’s seat in the fifth Ashes 2023 test against Australia.
