Suresh Raina reveals MS Dhoni’s message after meeting him

Suresh Raina was at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai to cover the league stage fixture between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. He is now a full-time cricket expert and does commentary during IPL 2023 and that’s when he last had a conversation with Dhoni.

“Main trophy jeet ke ek saal aur khelunga (After winning the trophy, I will play one more year),” Raina told Jio Cinema about MS Dhoni’s conversation with him about his retirement plans.

“I think he will play the way Danny Morrison asked him at the toss and he (Dhoni) said you are deciding it for me. I think he is looking good and batting really well. I think it’s for IPL or Indian cricket, he should continue playing. The Dhoni ki pathshala after every match is very important. A lot of players are learning from him and retirement is his call,” Raina said on Jio Cinema.

However, the CSK skipper acknowledged earlier in the season that he is in the last phase of his IPL career. Dhoni had announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020 and since then he’s just playing IPL and rumors keep spreading about his retirement from the cash-rich league.

The CSK skipper has taken up the role of a finisher and plays very few balls these days. He eyes for big hits on every delivery he faces. In the game against Lucknow Super Giants he smashed Mark Wood for back-to-back sixes. He did the same against Sam Curran in the game against Punjab Kings.

MS Dhoni is currently dealing with a knee injury which might also affect his retirement plans. Chennai Super Kings will hope that Dhoni continues to play for a few more seasons as his captaincy skills and expertise are unmatched. He has also done a pretty good job as the mentor for young and upcoming CSK players.
