Suresh Raina Retirement

Team India’s former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina were not just good teammates but also wonderful friends as they supported each other really well during their cricket career.

Suresh Raina had announced his retirement right after MS Dhoni’s retirement on August 15, 2020 and has now revealed the reason behind his early retirement.

Suresh Raina hails MS Dhoni for being a great leader and a great human being

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is arguably the most successful captain in the history of Indian cricket, took to Instagram on August 15, 2020, and announced his retirement from international cricket. On the same day, after MS Dhoni announced his retirement, Suresh Raina who was considered as his best friend on the field announced his retirement too.

While speculations were there about MS Dhoni’s retirement, Raina retiring at the age of 35 was hard to digest for the cricket fans as most of the cricket pandits too believed there was much cricket left in him. Suresh Raina was asked about his retirement decision during an interview with Sports Tak.

“We played so many matches together. I was fortunate to play with him for India, and with CSK. We got a lot of love. I’ve come from Ghaziabad, Dhoni from Ranchi. I played for MS Dhoni, then I played for the country. That’s the connection. We’ve played so many finals, we won the World Cup. He’s a great leader and a great human being,” Raina said on Sports Tak.

Suresh Raina last represented the Indian team in 2018 during an ODI against England while MS Dhoni played his last international game in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Cricket action came to a halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic and fans could not witness their favorite cricketers on the field for one last time.

Suresh Raina played under the leadership of MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League as well for the Chennai Super Kings franchise and both the players witnessed their most glorious on-field moments together. Suresh Raina also played a crucial role in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph after which MS Dhoni was considered as one of the best leaders in the game of cricket.
