Mumbai Indians are in a complete disarray at the moment and the results haven’t just gone in their favour so far. There were eccentric calls from the board ever since the start of the season when they replaced Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as the new captain, with former England captain Michael Vaughan calling it as one of the strangest moves in the history of the sports.

Mumbai Indians are currently placed at the bottom of the points table and are the only team that are yet to win a game this season. The five-time IPL champions kick-started their campaign with a defeat over Gujarat Titans before losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals in the next two games. With a hat-trick of defeats, Hardik Pandya has been under relentless pressure and it seems there have been no signs of improvement.

Mumbai Indians planning to sack Hardik Pandya as captain, reports

MI fans were unhappy with the current situation and they even vented their frustration by booing Hardik Pandya every now and then, a forgettable sight in the MI’s journey. Meanwhile, if the reports doing the rounds are to be believed, Mumbai Indians are planning to sack Hardik Pandya as the captain. As per the sources, Rohit Sharma is not satisfied with Hardik Pandya’s captaincy and that he is planning to leave Mumbai Indians after IPL 2024.

It remains to be seen whether or not Rohit Sharma will play for Mumbai Indians in the next season and only time will tell. With a mid-season captaincy change is on the cards, Hardik Pandya could be sacked as captain. If that’s the case, Suryakumar Yadav could be given the captaincy armband to lead the team from the front. He has been with the franchise for more than six years and wouldn’t hesitate if he is given the chance to lead the team.

MI’s Net Run Rate (-1.423) has taken a big hit and they will have to sort out the woes before it’s too late else they might miss an opportunity to qualify for the playoffs. In the last season, MI made it to the playoffs by finishing fourth on the points table and even knocked Lucknow Super Giants out of the competition in the Eliminator. Their journey came to an end after they were eliminated by Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 2.
