Derbyshire defeated Warwickshire by 6 wickets in the Vitality T20 Blast 2023 game on June 7 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. In the Derbyshire vs Warwickshire game, opening batter Haider Ali suffered a brain fade moment as he got stumped out in a comical manner off left-arm spinner Danny Briggs’ bowling.

The Derbyshire opening pair of Luis Reece and Haider Ali got them off to a flying start while chasing a mammoth target of 204 runs against Warwickshire. Ali raced to 48 runs as he took his team’s total to 95-0 by the end of the 10th over.

However, he missed out on an opportunity to smash a well-deserved fifty due to a brain fade moment. Warwickshire skipper Moeen Ali handed over the ball to left-arm spinner Danny Briggs to bowl the 11th over as he looked to restrict the flow of runs.

Briggs bowled a dot delivery upfront to the Derbyshire opener and then bowled a tossed-up fuller-length delivery outside the off stump. Ali tried to squeeze it towards the third man region but couldn’t make any contact with the ball.

His momentum took him outside the crease but Warwickshire wicketkeeper Alex Davies couldn’t grab the ball cleanly and missed the stumping on his first attempt. Haider Ali quickly came back into his crease but went out again in a bizarre manner eventually allowing Alex Davies to dislodge the bails.

The square leg umpire signalled out while Ali looked in utter disbelief at the bizarre stumping. He then took the long walk back to the pavilion after playing a brilliant knock of 48 runs off just 34 deliveries including 4 boundaries and 2 maximums.

Vitality Blast shared the video of the comical dismissal on their official Twitter handle and wrote the caption, “Make sense of this Haider Ali stumping.”

Earlier, Warwickshire posted a massive total of 203-7 courtesy of a stellar knock of 79 runs off just 36 deliveries by Sam Hain. Leg spinner Mattie Mckiernan took 3 wickets for the Derbyshire side while pacer George Scrimshaw took a couple of wickets as well.
