T20 World Cup 2021: Lahiru Kumara & Liton Das involve in a heated exchange

The incident took place immediately after Liton Das was dismissed.

2021 T20 World Cup feels like Asia Cup today. While Pakistan is set to face arch-rivals India in tonight, Bangladesh are facing off against Sri Lanka at present. Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to field first. The decision surely made sense as it’s very tough to bat first on the sluggish track Sharjah Cricket Ground offers. Owing the same reason, Bangladesh found it difficult to start their innings, losing their first 2 wickets under 60 runs.

Liton Das and Lahiru Kumara exchange words

Kumara was assigned with the powerplay’s last over. There was some tension building between Liton Das and Lahiru Kumara as each ball was being bowled. Then came the incident at which all of it exploded.

The penultimate delivery of the first inning’s sixth over saw Liton Das losing his wicket to Kumara after a run-a-ball sixteen. Das wanted a drag a full ball on the leg side. But he mistimed it altogether, handing a simple catch to mid-on.

Lahiru then came steaming in at Das and hurled a couple of harsh words to him. What followed was a hot-headed war of words between Kumara and Liton Das, as both the players were seen going back-and-forth. The event escalated quickly as Mohammed Naim was seen pushing Kumara away. Things went so ugly that even Sri Lanka’s Bhanuka Rajapaksa and  Dushmantha Chameera had to get involved in a bid to seperate Kumara from Liton Das. Watch the video here.

The match itself hangs in Bangladesh’s favour after they posted 171 runs on the board. Their assault was led by Mushfiqur Rahim’s unbeaten 37-ball-57. He was ably supported by Naim’s well-crafted 62, as both the knocks eventually helped the team post an above-par total even after suffering from a sluggish start. Lahiru Kumara, who’s making his international comeback after a long period of time impressed with his 29 for 1.
