T20 World Cup 2024: Harbhajan Singh Blasts Michael Vaughan Over ICC Favoring India Claim

Vaughan claimed that India had been allocated Guyana as their semi-final venue because the conditions would favor them.

India secured a one-sided victory against England in the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-final. The match in Guyana saw Indian spinners dominate, which irritated former English captain Michael Vaughan. After England’s defeat, he claimed that the BCCI had chosen Guyana as the venue for the semi-final to benefit from spin-friendly conditions.

Vaughan took to his X account to write, “If England had beaten SA they would have got the Trinidad semi and I believe they would have won that game.. So no complaints they haven’t been good enough .. But Guyana has been a lovely venue pick for India”

Harbhajan Singh who is active as a commentator in the tournament, wasted no time in giving Michael Vaughan a tongue-lashing. The former Indian spinner dismissed Vaughan’s theory of ICC favoritism towards India. Harbhajan wrote that both sides played at the same venue, and in fact, England had the real advantage as they won the toss and decided to bowl first under overcast conditions.

“What makes u think Guyana was a good venue for India ? Both Teams played on the same venue . England won the toss that was an advantage . Stop being silly . England was outplayed by India in all departments. Accept the fact and Move on and keep ur rubbish with urself. Talk logic not Nonsense,” Harbhajan Singh wrote on his X handle.

England’s decision to bowl first seemed promising as they secured two wickets in the power-play, dismissing Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. However, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav’s 73-run partnership proved to be crucial for India. As the game progressed, the wicket became more favorable for spinners, and Indian spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav gave no chance to England, restricting them to 103 while defending 171 runs.
