The situation in Afghanistan is dire currently. The Taliban has taken over the country and are imposing their laws on the people living there. A lot of things have changed in the country ever since the Taliban took over the governance. It’s the Taliban who is ruling the nation now and want everyone to abide by them. People are under constant pressure and fear; however, the Taliban has given permission to their cricket team to play the Test series against India in 2022.
The takeover of the Taliban has been nothing short of a nightmare as the whole nation was robbed of its freedom overnight. People fled the country to take shelter in their neighbouring nations. A lot of innocent people lost their lives due to the hullabaloo. Afghanistan cricket team has got the Australian tour which will be followed by the Indian tour. In first, the Taliban has given permission to their cricket team to do both tours.
Taliban allows the team to play cricket
It is to note that team Afghanistan was supposed to play the Test match against Australia last year itself, but the COVID situation compelled the authorities to postpone the match. The talk about the match against Australia has been on and it has been scheduled from November 27 to December 1, however, fans have been in confusion regarding the India-Afghanistan matches.
Hamid Ansari, who is the chief executive officer of the Afghanistan Cricket Board said that the Taliban government has been supporting cricket and all their tours will be played as per the schedule. Afghanistan is also planning to play a triangular series along with West Indies and Sri Lanka. This series will be played so the team could prepare themselves for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The assurance given by Hamid Ansari is relieving, however, it is to be seen how all these plans turn out. The fans will surely hope for a better future for Afghanistan and the sport, which gives the people of the country a reason to smile.
