Team India wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has tested positive for COVID-19, potentially ruling out his chances of going with team India for tour of England in June 2021.
This is the second time Saha has returned positive results for Coronavirus this month. Saha, alongside Amit Mishra from Delhi Capitals, and Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier from Kolkata Knight Riders, was among the first confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in the IPL bio-bubble. In fact, the rising number of COVID-19 cases among franchises was what led to the IPL’s indefinite suspension in the first place.
Saha likely to miss India tour of England 2021
Saha had been named a provisional member of the 20-member team for the World Test Championship Final and England series that was announced last week. He would’ve served as the team’s backup wicket-keeper to Rishabh Pant, the incumbent glovesman. While there is still a chance that he might recuperate just in time to make it into the England-bound squad; things aren’t looking too promising for the 36-year-old glovesman.
Sources close to the BCCI have been quite vocal in recent times about prioritizing the players’ health and safety in such tough times. Last week, an anonymous spokesperson from the Indian cricket board had announced that any player who tested positive ahead of the India tour of England 2021 could almost certainly count himself out of the team.

Onto some more positive developments, Saha, while still returning 1 positive test result out of 2; has reportedly recovered from the symptoms of body ache, fever, and cough that he had previously reported. He is currently in quarantine and has requested fans not to spread misinformation about his disease.

“I was certainly scared. A virus that has brought the Earth to a standstill, after being infected by it, I was bound to feel scared. Everyone in the family was very worried. We reassured them through video calls that there is no reason to be afraid. I am being taken care of enough,” Saha told news outlet Anandbazar Patrika in an interview.
