Former Indian cricket stars and champions of the 2011 World Cup, Gautam Gambhir and Sreesanth, are currently at the center of controversy following a heated exchange during yesterday’s Legends League Cricket match. During the Eliminator match of the tournament played between India Capitals and Gujarat Giants in Surat, both got involved in an on-field altercation. And now Sreesanth took to his Instagram handle to expose Gautam Gambhir.

After winning the toss, Gujarat Giants skipper Parthiv Patel opted to invite Gautam Gambhir-led India Capitals to bat first. However, Patel’s decision didn’t work in Gujarat’s favor, as Capitals’ openers, Gambhir and Kirk Edwards, made their intentions clear from the start. Despite the first over of the innings conceded only 5 runs, Gambhir targetted Sreesanth in the second over, smashing a six and a boundary in the first two balls

Following the 4th ball of the over which didn’t go for any run, Sreesanth seemed to be sledging Gautam Gambhir and the latter reacted with an angry glare. Another video making rounds on the internet shows both players having a heated exchange after the over. Gujarat Giants players and the umpire quickly stepped in to separate them. Now S Sreesanth has extended the matter further by uploading his video expressing his point of view on the incident. In the video, the bowler allegeed that during the altercation, Gautam Gambhir used inappropriate words directed at him and his family. Sreesanth also criticized Gambhir for his reportedly unfriendly relationships with former India teammates.

Sreesanth started the video saying, “Just wanted to clear the air with what happened with Mr fighter. One who always fights with all his colleagues. For no reason whatsoever. He does not even respect his senior players, including Viru bhai. That’s exactly what happened today. Without any provocation, he just kept on calling me something which was very rude which shouldn’t have been said by Mr Gautam Gambhir”

“I am not at all at fault here. I just wanted to clear the air straightaway. What Mr Gauti has done, sooner or later all of you will get to know. The words which he used and the things he said on a cricket field, live, is not acceptable. My family, my state, everybody has gone through so much. I fought that battle with all your support. Now people want to down me for no reason. He said things he shouldn’t have said. I will surely let you know what he said” Sreesanth continued.

Sreesanth further pointed Gautam Gambhir’s rift with Virat Kohli. “What’s the point of representing people if you don’t respect your own colleagues. Even in broadcasting when he is asked about Virat, he never speaks about him. He speaks about something else. I don’t want to go further in detail. Just want to say I am very hurt and my family is hurt and my dear ones are hurt. And the way he said things…. I haven’t used a single bad word or a single abuse. He just kept on saying words which he always does” Sreesanth added.

Talking about the Legends League Cricket match yesterday, India Capitals posted a total of 223 runs, thanks to Gautam Gambhir’s half-century and contributions from players such as Kevin Pietersen (26), Ben Dunk (30), Kirk Edwards (26), and Bharat Chipli (35). In response, Chris Gayle provided a strong start to Gujarat’s innings. However, wickets continued to fall at the other end.

Kevin O’Brien then provided support to Gayle, builting a 115-run partnership for the 4th wicket before O’Brien was dismissed for 57 off 33 balls. Gayle also departed after a contribution of 84 off 55 balls, leaving Gujarat Giants needing 23 runs off the last 11 balls. However, the task proved to be too challenging for the lower-order batsmen, and Gujarat Giants fell short by 13 runs of the target. With this victory, India Capitals advanced to the Qualifier 2 match, while Sreesanth’s Gujarat Giants have been knocked out of the tournament.
