Workload management has been one of the most discussed points in Indian cricket in recent times. Team India’s skipper Rohit Sharma has advised World Cup-bound Indian players to skip a few games if they think they need a break in order to remain fully fit for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

We have given some indications to the teams about workload management says Rohit Sharma

The 2023 ODI World Cup is scheduled to be played in the months of October-November. Team India is one of the biggest contenders for the marquee event but they’ll certainly need to address the fitness issues of their key players.

After the third ODI in Chennai, Rohit Sharma was asked whether Indian players will look to skip a few IPL games in order to remain fit for the upcoming ODI World Cup. Rohit had a quite straightforward reply to the reporter’s question.

“It’s all up to the franchises now. They own them now,” Rohit Sharma said after the third ODI.

“We have given some indications to the teams but at the end of the day, it’s up to the franchises to, and more importantly it’s up to the players,” the Indian skipper further added.

Meanwhile, Rohit also believed that it’s an individual’s decision if he feels his body needs rest. According to Rohit, the World Cup-bound players can skip a couple of games if they feel so.

Players have to look after their bodies: Rohit Sharma

“They are all adults, they have to look after their bodies. If they feel it’s getting a bit too much, they can talk about it and take a break in one or two games. I doubt if that will happen,” Rohit Sharma pointed.

IPL 2023 is scheduled to begin on March 31 as Gujarat Titans will take on Chennai Super Kings in the opening game in Ahmedabad. The players will give their 100% for almost two months after which they’ll again contest in the International fixtures.

Meanwhile, there’s no clarity on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness who played his last international game last year. Shreyas Iyer too is down with a recurring back injury and might need surgery. Wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant is recovering from the injuries he suffered in a car accident.
