Third Umpire Richard Kettleborough was booed by the crowd during the WTC Final presentation.

During the WTC post-match presentation, the third umpire of the match Richard Kattleborough was booed by the Indian crowd for the decisions that he made during the match. Richard has been proved to be a threat to team India during crucial matches i.e., Richard was the third umpire in the 2019 WC semi-final, the 2021 WTC Final, and also in the 2023 WTC Final and India ended up losing these crucial matches.

Although he can’t be blamed for India’s loss he has to take the right umpiring decisions. Indian Cricket Fans are also cussing him on Social Media for the wrong decision that he took for Shubhman”s wicket in the second innings of the match. Cameron Gill took his catch at slip, However, the ball touched the ground but Richard gave it out, to which some cricket pandits are saying that it was not out. 

During the presentation when the umpires were called on stage India fans started booing when Richard Kattleborough’s name was called. Many Cricketers and Ex-Cricketers showed disappointment towards Richard’s umpiring decisions. Shubhman posted a story on his Instagram account where it can be seen that the ball clearly touched the ground. Mohammad Shami also made a comment on the controversial decision that was taken by Richard.

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag criticized the umpire’s decision by sharing a post on his Twitter account mocking Richard Kattleborough. He posted an image illustrating a blindfolded man and he captioned it by saying,Third umpire while making that decision of Shubman Gill. Inconclusive evidence. When in doubt, it’s Not Out.”

Even the Indian captain is disappointed by the decision, and he feels like the umpire could have taken some more time and looked at some more angles before coming to his final decision. Rohit Sharma said, “I just felt disappointed. I mean, the third umpire should have seen a little more replays, a little more of, you know, how the catch has been held,”

Rohit said after India’s 209-run loss early on Sunday. “I think it was three or four times he saw, and he was convinced with it. It’s not about whether it was given out or not out, you need to have a proper and clear information about anything. It’s just not about the catch, it can be about anything.”
