Team India has been in the news lately for all the chopping and changing that the BCCI has done, especially the captaincy of the shorter format. Virat Kohli was removed from the ODI captaincy and BCCI announced the same with a tweet. Rohit Sharma is now the new full-time ODI captain for team India and will lead the side in the upcoming South Africa tour. Here we look at three big names who may be overlooked under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma comes in with a lot of reputation as far as his captaincy is concerned. The right-handed batsman has been super-successful in the Indian Premier League and has led his side to the trophy 5 times. Even when he was given the role of a stand-in captain in the international arena, he has done well leading the troops. Now that Rohit Sharma is the full-time captain, we may see three big names be overlooked under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

Shikhar Dhawan has not been a part of India’s T20I squad for quite some time. He was neglected even in the T20 World Cup which ended in November. Though he has always performed well in the ICC events, he was not picked in the squad for the T20 World Cup. Currently playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Dhawan has struggled to get amongst the runs which has lessened his chances of him appearing in the SA tour under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

The second player who may be overlooked under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy is Hardik Pandya, who has struggled with ever-going fitness issues. He has not bowled for the team and his performance with the bat has been utterly disappointing. His ongoing battle with fitness is an issue of concern and his selection in the team as a pure batsman looks most unlikely.

Another player who the fans may not see in the upcoming SA tour under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy is Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The swing bowler has not performed to his potential for almost 2 years and he may not be in the scheme of things for team India. In the T20I series against New Zealand, Kumar looked out of touch and that has made things even more difficult for him.
