Top 5 Batsmen with Best Strike Rate in IPL: Only one Indian in the list

While three West Indian players feature in the Top 5, surprisingly there's only one Indian player in the list.

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is just around the corner as it is set to begin with the CSK vs KKR match on the 26th of March. Ahead of this year’s IPL, let’s see which players have registered the best strike rate in the tournament history so far. The IPL has seen many big hard-hitters of the ball showcasing their skills, in this article we will be listing the top 5 with the best strike rates.

1. Andre Russell – 178.57

The Caribbean giant tops the list with a strike rate of 178.57. He has played 84 matches so far where he has scored 1700 runs at an average of 29.31. Throughout his IPL career, he has played numerous match-winning knocks and won matches for his team singlehandedly. Russell is a proven finisher who is known for playing quickfire knocks. In addition to that, his bowling skills make him one of the most valuable players in the competition.

2. Sunil Narine – 161.69

Yet another KKR all-rounder, Sunil Narine, is on the list as he has the second-best strike rate in the IPL. He has played 134 IPL games so far where he has scored 954 runs at an average of a mere 15.63 but done so at an impressive strike rate of 161.69. Narine has been utilized by KKR both as an opener as well as a finisher and his strike rate is evident of the fact that he has done well in both positions.

3. Virender Sehwag – 155.44

The only Indian who is in the top 5 is the veteran opener Virender Sehwag. The explosive right-hander had a knack of dealing in boundaries and his stats justify the same. Sehwag has hit 334 fours and 106 sixes in his IPL career. In 104 matches, he has scored 2,728 runs at an average of 27.55 and a strike rate of 155.44. Sehwag also scored 2 centuries and 16 half-centuries in his IPL career.

4. Chris Morris – 155.27

Next on the list is the South African all-rounder Chris Morris. Morris, who is the costliest buy in the history of IPL announced his retirement from all cricket in January 2022. He ended his IPL career with 618 runs in 81 matches. He accounts for an impressive strike rate of 155.27. Over the years, Morris played for various IPL franchises including Chennai, Delhi, and Banglore. Last season he was a part of Rajasthan Royals.

5. Nicholas Pooran – 154.98

Fifth on the list is another West Indian player, Nicholas Pooran. Known for his six-hitting skills, Pooran is a great middle-order batsman. He has played 33 IPL games so far where he has scored 606 runs at a strike rate of 154.98. Him being comparatively new to the league, it will be interesting to see whether he maintains striking the ball at the same rate. Pooran has been bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2022 mega-auction.
