Windies skipper Nicholas Pooran opted to bowl first after winning the toss and the Indian openers proved his decision wrong as they notched-up a 119-run partnership for the first wicket. It was followed by another 94-run partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer for the second wicket. West Indies batsmen replied with a positive mindset and could have won the match if it was not for Sanju Samson. Team India got an amazing start but the middle-order couldn’t capitalize on it and they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Even after many hiccups, India gave a target of 309 runs to the West Indies. Though the Windies lost their first wicket pretty early, they bounced back and almost won the game. Windies needed 15 runs off the last over and it looked possible because both Akeal Hosein and Romario Shepherd were set on the crease.

The huge moment in the game came on the penultimate delivery of the match when Mohammed Siraj was bowling to Shepherd. The bowler followed the batsman and bowled the fifth delivery down the leg which was called wide by the umpire. Sanju Samson dived full-length and saved a crucial 4 runs which could have sealed the game for West Indies.
