Monday night’s IPL clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is likely to be postponed; sources close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have conveyed to several prominent news outlets. As per reports, two players has been tested COVID 19 positive in the KKR camp and today’s match vs RCB likely to be rescheduled.

2 COVID positive players in the KKR camp

None of the COVID-related developments has yet officially been verified by KKR or the BCCI. However, popular speculation suggests that Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier from the Knight Riders’ camp are the two infected players. Both of them likely contracted the virus when they left the bio-bubble to conduct injury scans.

As previously mentioned, the BCCI is yet to make an official announcement; about the confirmed covid positive cases in KKR camp and tonight’s match being postponed. According to reports, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), local organizers for the Ahmedabad leg of the tournament (which is where KKR and RCB were supposed to play), have already been informed about the rescheduling of the KKR-RCB match.

“The BCCI will announce new match dates for the KKR-RCB match by Monday afternoon”, GCA members have revealed anonymously.

RCB are currently placed 3rd on the points table, with 10 points from 7 games. KKR, on the other hand, languish at the bottom half of the table with just 4 points from as many matches.

No official announcement to postpone the IPL

While no official announcement has been made yet, there is a chance that the BCCI might postpone the whole tournament. The current season has already experienced several COVID-related setbacks. From overseas players departing early to multiple reports of COVID cases in several franchises’ camps; things certainly look quite dire.
