Once termed as ‘The next big thing in Indian cricket’, the Under-19 World Cup 2012 winning Captain, Unmukt Chand, announced his retirement from Indian Cricket on Friday. Unmukt took to Twitter to reveal about his retirement. He posted an emotional retirement letter and some videos which highlighted his best cricketing moments in India.

In his letter, he wrote about his memories of playing Cricket as a child and dreaming of representing India at the highest level. He stated that the thought of not being able to represent his country ever again saddens him. He adjudged that winning the Under-19 World Cup for India was the biggest moment of his life. Unmukt wrote in his letter that it was a special feeling to lift the World Cup as a captain and make the entire country happy.

Unmukt also wrote that captaining the India-A side on numerous occasions and winning various series will forever be in his memories. Through his letter, he thanked BCCI and DDCA for giving him the opportunities he got.

Here’s what Unmukt Chand posted on Twitter

Unmukt Chand grabbed an IPL contract very early in his career. He was picked by Delhi Capitals back in 2011. He also became a member of the Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians later on.

The Under-19 world cup final heroics of Unmukt Chand are unforgettable. He scored 111* in the final to chase the target of 226. He then became a regular member of the India-A side and went on to captain the India-A team until 2015. Unmukt was named in the 30-member squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and the 2014 T20 World Cup but unfortunately never got selected.

Unmukt admitted that the last few years in his career have been rough and he didn’t get enough opportunities. He expressed his feelings as he wrote that he is not at peace with the way things have unfolded for him in recent years but said that he’d still bid adieu to BCCI with fond memories and seek better opportunities around the world.

Unmukt hinted that he’ll continue playing cricket for some other country. “Cricket is a Universal game and even though the means might change, the end goal remains the same. To play cricket at the highest level.”, he wrote.
