A press release by the BCCI on January 22 stated that Virat Kohli has withdrawn his name from the first two Test matches against England. The 35-year-old batter was part of the 16-man squad scheduled to meet the England team in Hyderabad on January 25.

“Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management, and the selectors and has emphasized that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention,” the BCCI stated in media release.

The BCCI has stated that, due to family reasons, the star cricketer is going to miss the matches. The board has expressed its respect for Kohli’s decision and has also requested fans and the media to do the same. “The BCCI has chosen to keep the reason confidential and has urged fans not to engage in speculation.

“The BCCI requests the media and fans to respect Virat Kohli’s privacy during this time and refrain from speculating on the nature of his personal reasons. The focus should remain on supporting the Indian cricket team as they embark on the upcoming challenges in the Test series,” BCCI added.
