The former Indian cricketer is not impressed with Suryakumar Yadav’s ODI performances. The number 1 T20I batsman Suyakumar Yadav has been very ordinary in the 50-over format. The experts are questing his place in the Indian ODI team ahead of Sanju Samson. Wasim Jaffer backs Sanju Samson’s selection over Suryakumar Yadav in ODI Cricket.

Suryakumar Yadav’s T20 international performances have been no doubt very impressive. In the span of 1 year, he became the number T20 batter in the ICC T20I rankings. He was the third-highest runscorer of the T20 World Cup 2022 with a strike rate close to 180.

Despite his unreal batting show in T20 cricket, the cricketer has been surprisingly very average in the ODI format. The 32-year-old averages just 25.5 with a strike rate of 102.4 in the 22 ODI matches he has played till now.

Suryakumar Yadav bagged two golden ducks in the first two ODIs against Australia

In the ongoing One-day series between India and Australia Suryakumar Yadav has failed miserably. The player is yet to open the scoring and has been dismissed in the same fashion by Starc. Not to mention that both the deliveries on which Surya got out were absolute peach.

It seems like Surya’s game is getting very predictable by the bowlers. Surya is looking to counter from the very first ball as he does in T20s but the approach is benefiting in ODIs.

The cricket analyst has started pointing fingers at Surya’s place in the team. Wasim Jaffer who is very much active on social media also voices his opinion.

He said “We might sympathize with Suryakumar Yadav as the first ball that he faced was 145 clicks. No doubt that it’s challenging when a left-arm seamer tries to bring the ball back in. Again, he should have anticipated that when Mitchell Starc bowls, he will attack the stumps and might swing the ball.”

Adding to this he also said “We have to see if the management sticks with him in the third ODI otherwise it’s not a bad option to give Sanju Samson a chance because he has played well when given the opportunity and he is a good player,”

Due to the injury sustained by Shreyas Iyer during the 4th Test India is currently seeking a player to bat in the number 4 position. Considering this Surya will have one last opportunity to showcase his ability in the 3rd ODI at the Chepauk.
