Today, North Sydney Oval is hosting the series decider of the Women’s WDOI series between Australia and South Africa. The hosts opted to bat first and put on a solid batting performance, reaching a total of 277 runs. Skipper Alyssa Healy notched a fifty, while Beth Mooney remained the top run-scorer with 82 runs. At the end of the innings, Alana King entertained the crowd by smacking two sixes.

One of the sixes came in a bizarre fashion. In the last ball of the 48th over, Proteas seamer Masabata Klaas intended to execute a yorker, but the ball slipped out of her hand and was traveling straight toward Alana King’s helmet. Alana was surprised by the beamer, and the only thing she could do to avoid a blow was rotating her bat.

She attempted a shot and luckily found the middle of the bat. However, she lost her balance and ended up hitting all three stumps as well. The ball crossed the boundary, and as it was a waist-high no ball, she was given not out. Alana King ended her innings scoring 17 runs in 12 balls.

The 28-year-old Alana King made her debut in 2022 and has been an integral part of the Australian women’s side since then. She is a leg-spin all-rounder who possesses the ability to hit big shots down the order. However, she hasn’t showcased much of her batting prowess at the international level yet. In 26 WODIs, she has scored 91 runs, including the 17-run knock today.
