Royal Challengers Bangalore are closing in on a crucial victory in the 67th match of the Indian Premier League to keep their chances of playoffs alive. They are up against the formidable Gujarat Titans who have been clinical in their debut season. While RCB is marching towards a win, the first inning saw some drama as an angry Matthew Wade threw his helmet and smashed his bat in the dressing room after a controversial decision by the third umpire.

Angry Matthew Wade throws helmet, smashes bat

RCB entered the field today with a firm intention to win the game as a defeat will confirm their exit from the league. They were invited to bowl first by the GT skipper Hardik Pandya and the RCB bowlers did well to restrict Gujarat to just 168 runs. Gujarat Titans lost 5 wickets in their inning, one of which became the talk of the town like an angry Matthew Wade expressed extreme disappointment after he was given out.

The whole episode took place in the 6th over of the GT inning when Maxwell was bowling to Wade who was starting to settle on the crease. Wade went for a sweep shot on the second ball of the over but didn’t quite get it right and the ball hit his pads. The on-field umpire gave him out after an appeal by the bowler, but Wade was sure that he had under edged the ball before it hit his pads. The Ultraedge showed no spike, but it was clearly seen in the replay that the ball had deflected from the bat. This decision irked the batsman and an angry Matthew Wade was seen throwing his helmet.
