Afghanistan faced Sri Lanka at The Gabba in Brisbane in their fourth super-12 stage game after their two successive games were washed out due to rain.

Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan quite comfortably by 6 wickets which ended Afghanistan’s semifinal dream as they’re yet to win a game in this year’s T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka was cruising towards the Afghanistan total of 145 runs as they were placed at 46-1 in the eighth over as Team Afghanistan badly needed a breakthrough. Rashid Khan came to rescue his team as he got rid of well-set Kusal Mendis on the fifth delivery of the over.

Rashid bowled a full on the stump delivery to which Mendis played a premeditated sweep shot. He couldn’t middle it and only managed a top edge as the ball ballooned up in the air creating an opportunity for the Afghanistan fielders.

The wicketkeeper, slip fielder and short leg fielder kept waiting for each other as none of them ran toward the ball. At once, it looked like the ball will fall in no man’s land which annoyed Rashid Khan. However, just at the last moment, wicketkeeper Gurbaz called for the catch and took it safely.

Just as the catch was completed, all the Afghan fielders ran toward Rashid and congratulated him. Fazalhaq Farooqi too came to congratulate Rashid as the Afghan leggie had some friendly banter with Farooqi and he disturbed his hair and looked elated with the success.

Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman bowled superbly against the Lankan Tigers as they grabbed two wickets each. Despite the duo putting the batters in trouble, Sri Lanka chased down the target of 145 runs quite comfortably with 6 wickets in hand and 9 deliveries still remaining.
