The cricket fraternity has witnessed batsmen sneaking quick singles against the run of play. The batters convert those 1’s into 2’s and sometimes, 2’s into 3’s, depending on the situation of the game. On rare occasions, we have also seen batters collecting four runs just by sprinting between the wickets. Have you ever seen a team making a herculean effort to take five runs just by running?

The incident happened during the second Test match between Australia and Pakistan at the MCG. Of course, all these little things do make a difference in shaping the outcome of the game. For sure, it is palpable that the players with a determined mindset will take the team to the next level, thereby increasing the chances of winning the game.

Australian batters cheekily take 5 runs against Pakistan in the MCG Test

Australian players namely Pat Cummins and Alex Carey hogged the limelight after they completed five runs just by breezing through the wickets, which is indeed a rare sight in Test cricket. While we have seen batters completing four runs by running, which is also seen as a once-in-a-blue-moon scenario, the Australian duo was in no mood to stop even after running four runs as they were determined to take the fifth run as well.

This scenario wouldn’t have been possible had it not been for Pakistan’s shoddy fielding effort, which resulted in an overthrow. Aamer Jamal pitched a good length ball to Pat Cummins and the Australian skipper nicely drove the ball through the covers in the hope of taking two runs. Meanwhile, one of the players collected the ball and threw it towards his teammate at the non-striker’s end.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep up with the pace of the ball coming towards him, leading to an overthrow. Aussies sensed that there was an opportunity to go for the third and fourth before completing five runs. The rare-case scenario was loved by the crowd and the video clip of the same has gone viral on social media. Talking about the game, Pakistan put up some fight in the run-chase of 316.

Nevertheless, they lacked control and finesse in some moments, which triggered the batting collapse. The visitors were bowled out for 237 as the hosts won by 79 runs and won the series by 2-0, with one more to go. The third and final Test match will kick off on January 3 at Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney.
