Watch: ‘Baby AB’ Dewald Brevis wows fans with a stylish no-look six

In his knock of 29 runs, the 18-year old batter gave MI fans enough moments to cheer about.

South Africa’s prodigious talent Dewald Brevis also popularly known as ‘Baby AB’ announced his arrival in the IPL 2022 in a fashionable manner. The 18-year-old made his IPL debut for Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and asked Mumbai Indians to bat first. Skipper Rohit Sharma departed in the third over after he top-edged Umesh Yadav’s short ball, pitched outside off-stump, and Sam Billings took an excellent catch to dismiss the MI opener.

Brevis joined Ishan Kishan at the crease and the duo tried to pace MI’s innings forward with some great shots. Brevis lofted an in-swinger from Rasikh Salam, that was shaping back, for a boundary over mid-on and in the next over, the youngster played with a flat-bat to hit Umesh for a four in the same direction.

The South African player clobbered Australian pacer Pat Cummins after finding a leading-edge that sailed over Sam Billing’s head for his first maximum in the IPL. Brevis had reserved the best shot for the game.

The ‘Baby AB’ welcomed KKR leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy with the no-look six, he bent his head down and didn’t look up after dispatching the ball over deep mid-wicket for another big hit, which left every spectator in awe with his amazing shot.

However, Chakravarthy had the last laugh as Brevis attempted to slog-sweep the spin bowler but missed it outside the off-stump with his backfoot remaining outside the crease, Billings was quick to remove the bails and bring an end to the brief cameo from the South African youngster.

Suyarkumar Yadav, playing in his first game of IPL 2022, scored 52 off 36 balls and stitched a crucial 83-run stand with Tilak Varma, who made 38 in 27 balls as MI posted 161/4 in the first innings.
