Millions of hearts were broken when Sachin Tendulkar played his last international match for India, with his final appearance coming in a Test match against the West Indies in 2013. The Master Blaster misjudged Narsingh Deonarine’s ball and saw him edge an easy catch to Darren Sammy at first slip. Sammy who took the catch in his safe pair of hands chose not to celebrate because of his respect for the legend. After Sachin’s final appearance, several fans thought he would not turn up on the field again.
However, the legendary cricketer made his presence count post-retirement. He was seen playing exhibition and charity matches. Notably, he captained the MCC team in a Bicentenary Celebration match at Lord’s in 2014. Notably, he organized exhibition games in partnership with Shane Warne. India’s batting maestro captained the India Legends to victory in the 2020–21 Road Safety World Series and was the leading run-getter for the Indian team in the competition.
