Team India’s young pacer Mohammad Siraj rattled through the Sri Lankan batting lineup in the third ODI between India and Sri Lanka at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Along with his penetrating bowling, he impressed everyone with his awareness on the field as he ran out Sri Lankan batter Chamika Karunaratne off his own bowling.

Chamika Karunaratne caught off guard as Siraj shows brilliant game awareness

The Sri Lankan batting lineup had a terrible start after they began their innings in pursuit of chasing a mammoth total of 390 set by the Men in Blue as they kept losing wickets in quick succession. In the 12th over of their chase, Chamika Karunaratne found an innovative way of throwing his wicket which added insult to injury for the Sri Lankan batting lineup.

Mohammad Siraj bowled a full and straight delivery to Karunaratne who defended it back to the bowler. He was so impressed with his shot-making that he continued to hold his pose despite playing it straight into the hands of the bowler. Siraj immediately noticed Karunaratne’s mistake and was quick to throw the ball back towards the stumps.

The Indian fielders appealed for the run-out and the on-field umpire signalled towards the third umpire. On the big screen it was clearly shown that the batter was caught off guard. Karunaratne couldn’t believe the terrible error he had made as he found both his legs outside the crease when the bails were dislodged.

Apart from this brilliant run-out, Mohammad Siraj took four crucial wickets including the top-three batters as he rattled through the Sri Lankan batting lineup as Sri Lanka was once placed at 48-6 in just 14 overs. Sri Lanka eventually was dismissed for a total of mere 73 runs.
