Cheteshwar Pujara maintained his remarkable form in the ongoing County Championship season, scoring his fourth consecutive century for Sussex against Middlesex on Saturday. Pujara duelled Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi in a fiery spell, even counter-attacking the left-arm pacer with an uppercut that sailed over the ropes for a six. As Afridi was forced to switch his length sooner in his spell, his backfoot punch was equally magnificent.

Eventually, Afridi went around the wicket to Pujara but he cautiously left the deliveries onto the keeper.

Pujara brought up his 50 in just 67 deliveries which included 6 fours and a six. When the 100-run stand with Tom Alsop managed to come up, it was his fifth century partnership in four matches. With a swift three between the wickets off Mark Stoneman, the senior Indian batter attained his century. According to the most recent Hove report, Pujara finished day 3 going undefeated on 125 off 149 balls (16 fours and 2 sixes).

Pujara, who has earlier represented Yorkshire and Gloucestershire, was scheduled to play six matches but they were suspended due to the coronavirus-induced pandemic.

Pujara has decided to play in England after struggling to secure a bidder in the recently concluded IPL auction. He was also slumped from the Indian Test team following a poor showing during India’s tour of South Africa.
