Cristiano Ronaldo became the talk of the town for his act of sportsmanship during the AFC Champions League fixture between Al Nassr and Persepolis. The former Real Madrid forward who is considered one of the best footballers in the world is plying his trade for Al Nassr, which is a Saudi Arabian professional football club based in Riyadh. During the game against Persepolis, Ronaldo drew plaudits for his touching gesture when the referee pointed to the spot after one of the defenders tackled Al Nassr’s captain.

The former Manchester United forward went down quickly after the tackle and the referee who witnessed the scene quickly awarded a penalty to Persepolis. Meanwhile, some Persepolis players went up to the official to protest that it was not a penalty in the first place but the referee was in no mood to listen to them as he felt that his judgement was spot on.

However, Ronaldo was quick to notice that the tackle was not intentional and perhaps he felt that it was too much for him to fall on the ground. Upon getting up, the legendary football was honest enough to admit that it was not a penalty in the first place. When the cameras zoomed in on Ronaldo, the latter admitted that it was not a penalty as he went up to the referee and asked him to reverse the decision.

His incredible gesture won the hearts of the football fraternity as countless fans chipped in with their views and opinions on the internet. Talking about the game, both teams battled it amongst themselves at King Saud University Stadium.

The game was evenly poised throughout the passage of play and saw no result as the teams settled for a 0-0 draw. AL-Nassr suffered an early blow after Ali Lajami was sent off with a straight red after a rough tackle on Milad Sarlak. Persepolis had the advantage to turn things around but they failed to put the ball at the back of the opposition’s net.
