Watch: David Warner bats right-handed against R Ashwin, gets out trying to play Switch Hit

Ravichandran Ashwin has been the pick of the bowlers for Team India in the second ODI against Australia at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. The veteran off-spinner brought experience and skill to the table by taking two wickets in an over, dismissing the likes of David Warner and Josh Inglis. The duo played across the wrong line and paid the price as they were dismissed leg before wicket during the 15th over of Australia’s innings.

Initially, Ravi Ashwin opened his account by making a mess of Marnus Labuschagne’s stumps. After that, he went on to take the prized wicket of David Warner in the first ball of the 15th over. Warner who scored a half-century tried to tackle Ashwin’s off-spin changing his batting stance from left to right-handed, a decision that you don’t see every day.

But as there is a saying you can’t trick a trickster, Ashwin started bowling carrom balls. Now Warner made up his mind to play an innovative switch hit against Ravichandran Ashwin, however, this didn’t go well. Avid fans would recall Warner’s massive switch-hit six against Ravi Ashwin in a T20I match in 2012.

However, eleven years later, David Warner once again tried to execute a switch hit off Ravi Ashwin’s bowling but ended up paying the price. Ravi Ashwin tossed the ball up around the off-stump line which tempted Warner to play the reverse sweep but was beaten all ends up. Warner could have easily survived had he taken the review because he got an inside edge off his bat before the ball hit his pad.

Warner had a chat with his partner Josh Inglis and then decided against a review before walking off the pitch. Just a few deliveries later, Ravi Ashwin trapped Inglis for an LBW when the latter tried to play a sweep. Josh made his way back to the dugout after scoring 6 runs. Earlier, Team India posted a mammoth total of 399/5 in 50 overs, their highest-ever total against Australia in the 50-over format.

Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill scored a century apiece whereas KL Rahul scored a half-century. Suryakumar Yadav lit the stadium ablaze with his quickfire batting masterclass as he chipped in with an unbeaten 72 off 37 balls including 6 fours and 6 hits over the fence. On the other side of the coin, the second innings was reduced to 33 overs owing to rain.

As a result, the target was revised to 317. Australia were bowled for 217 as Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each. Team India won the second ODI by 99 runs (D/L method) and won the series, with one more game to go. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya are expected to feature in the third and final on September 27 at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.
