Team India is playing Zimbabwe in their last match of the 3-match ODI series in Harare which kickstarted on 18th August. The Indian team has already taken a 2-0 unassailable lead and are looking to complete a clean-sweep. The third match of the series witnessed an interesting incident where Deepak Chahar mankad Innocent Kaia but didn’t appeal to the umpire to claim the wicket.

KL Rahul won the toss for the third consecutive time and this time the Indian skipper opted to bat first which gave an opportunity to all the Indian batsmen to showcase their skill. KL Rahul came in to bat as the opener but couldn’t really get going as he was dismissed on just 30 runs. Shubman Gill was the pick of the batsmen as he notched up his first ever ODI century. However, an amusing incident took place in the second inning where Deepak Chahar mankad Innocent Kaia but refused to appeal.
The incident where Deepak Chahar mankad the Zimbabwe opener came in the very first over of the Zimbabwe inning. Chahar opened the bowling for India and as he ran to bowl the first delivery of the first over, he saw Innocent Kaia moving out of the crease. The bowler dislodged the bails but didn’t proceed to make an appeal and left the batsman with just a warning.

There has been a constant debate amongst the cricketers about mankading a batsman. A section of fans and cricketers opine that ‘Mankad’ is completely within the spirit of the game as there is no cricketing rule against it. On the other hand, many cricketers feel that mankading a batsman hurt the spirit of the game and bowlers must not use this tactic of taking a wicket.
As for the third ODI, Zimbabwe is fighting back at the time of writing this article. Sikandar Raza is playing a brilliant inning and is approaching his century. The seasoned campaigner has already notched up a 68-run partnership with Brad Evans who is playing a handy knock along with Raza. Team India has picked up 7 wickets but need to break this partnership in order to complete a clean-sweep.
