Australian women’s team started the Ashes Test match in a remarkable fashion. It was the Aussies who won the toss and elected to bat first, while doing so they managed to score 328 runs on the first day of the only test match of the series. Aussie all-rounder Ellyse Perry was the star of the opening day of the test match as she played a exceptional knock of 99 runs from 153 balls.
After her dismissal she reflected on her 119 runs partnership with Tahlia McGrath, she even mentioned that neither she was thinking about the century nor she was bothered by her dismissal on a score of 99.
“Like every other ball, it’s just an opportunity at a particular moment in time, and I’d had a really great tussle with Filer the whole time. I thought she was extremely impressive today on debut and brought the game alive at different points,” Perry was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“So that ball just had my measure, which is totally fine. It’s a number, and one that we talk about a lot in cricket, but the whole experience out there today was so much fun. I’ve loved every opportunity. Sometimes things just go that way. It’s hard to be disappointed,” she added.
It was the last ball of the 60th over when she got out by the debutant Lauren Filer, as she provided the breakthrough at the right moment, otherwise, Perry would have done more damage to them. The debutant took 2 important scalps of Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney. She gave 65 runs in her spell including 2 wickets and 1 maiden over.

As the women’s test returned to this major stadium for the first time since 2001, 5,545 people came to watch the only test match between the two sides at Trent Bridge stadium, Nottingham. The supporters were cruising at 3-215 close to tea when the showers interrupted the session. However, when the session resumed Sophie Ecclestone and debutant Lauren Filer together took 3 wickets in a short span including the wicket of the Aussie captain Hailey for a duck and Perry for 99, which turned the play upside down, Even after losing 3 wickets in a quick succession Aussies ended the day with an upper hand over England.
