The ongoing second Test match between New Zealand and South Africa at Seddon Park, Hamilton, witnessed a spectacular scene on the field as Glenn Phillips literally did the unthinkable to take a surreal catch to dismiss the set South African batter, Keegan Petersen. The right-handed batter confidently middled Matt Henry’s short ball between the gully and the point region, in the hope of targeting the boundary.
However, his decision put him instantly on the back foot as Glenn Phillips timed his jump to perfection to take a sensational one-handed catch. The New Zealand player’s reaction time was spot on as he was able to keep up with the pace of the ball travelling towards him. Notably, he got his balance right while taking the catch, in what was indeed a top drawer.

The incident happened during the second ball of the 60th over of South Africa’s second innings, when Keegan Petersen who was batting on 43 (6 fours) was looking to hit a four but that wasn’t meant to be as Glenn Phillips pulled off a gem of a catch to send the right-handed batsman packing. The video clip of the same has been doing the rounds on social media, with the netizens reserving the highest respect for Glenn’s effort.

South African cricket team were bowled out for 235 runs in the second innings and set up a tricky target of 267. David Bedingham was the pick of the batters for the visitors as he top-scored with 110 where he struck 12 fours and 2 hits over the fence. On the other side of the coin, William ORourke was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as he accounted for five dismissals.

Glenn Phillips who was incredibly sharp on the field made his presence count with the ball as he took two wickets to his name. New Zealand lost their opening batter Devon Conway for 17 as Dane Piedt trapped him for a leg before wicket. The hosts ended the third day’s play at 40/1 and they still need 227 runs to win the game and the series.
