Watch: Gujarat Titans tease Mumbai Indians by making a bid on Arjun Tendulkar, Ambani-owned franchise paid extra 10 lakh for all-rounder

Arjun Tendulkar joined the Mumbai Indians' squad as the franchise bid Rs. 30 lakhs on him.

Arjun Tendulkar will remain in Mumbai Indians (MI) as the franchise shelved Rs. 30 lakhs to attain the services of the all-rounder.

As Arjun’s name popped up in the final hours of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega-auction, it was all but expected that he would attract the bid of MI. The franchise made an opening bid of Rs. 20 lakhs.

While MI seemed to believe they had roped in the left-arm seamer at his base price, Gujarat Titans, unexpectedly, increased the bid to Rs. 25 lakhs. In an attempt to make MI spend more from their auction purse, the Titans’ strategy worked as the Mumbai based-franchise now made a bid of Rs. 30 lakhs.

Eventually, MI got their man as Arjun Tendulkar was sold to them for Rs. 30 lakhs. Interestingly, the 22-year-old will be mentored by his father and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

Notably, Arjun last year was bought by MI for Rs. 20 lakhs. However, he did not play a single match in the IPL 2021. He is selected in Mumbai’s squad for the nearing Ranji season and is likely to make his debut.

Mumbai Indians bolster their squad on Day 2 of the mega-auction

MI heavily indulged in the bidding war on Day 2 of the mega-auction. Apart from Arjun, the team spent a whopping amount of Rs. 8 crore to add fiery pacer Jofra Archer to their squad. However, he will not be available for the upcoming IPL season.

Tymal Mills and Riley Meredith found a place in MI’s squad for Rs. 1.50 crore and Rs. 1 crore respectively. Youngster Tilak Verma was bought by the franchise for Rs. 1.7 crore.
