Watch: Hardik Pandya becomes victim of an unfortunate dismissal after Ishan Kishan luckily survives

Team India defeated West Indies by 5 wickets in the first ODI at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on July 27. However, Indian vice-captain Hardik Pandya lost his wicket in an unfortunate manner after Ishan Kishan got a lucky escape as Yannic Cariah couldn’t hold on to his catch.

The Indian team management decided to give opportunities to their young batters as skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli didn’t bat in the top order. While the Men in Blue were chasing a mediocre target, they did lose a few early wickets.

Keeper-batter Ishan Kishan was sent in to open the innings along with Shubman Gill. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya was sent in to bat at the number 4 position after the early dismissals of Gill and Suryakumar Yadav.

Hardik Pandya’s bizarre run-out in the first IND vs WI ODI

On the first delivery of the 14th over of the Indian innings, leg-spinner Yannic Cariah bowled a fullish length. Ishan Kishan smashed it back towards the bowler but he couldn’t hold on to the catch which allowed the young keeper-batter a lucky escape.

However, the ball rolled onto the non-striker’s stumps and Hardik Pandya tried getting back into his crease. Just as the bails were dislodged, the Caribbean fielders made a loud appeal as they believed the Indian vice-captain was short of his crease.

The on-field umpire signalled for a review and on the giant screen it was made pretty clear that Hardik couldn’t get back into his crease in time. His bat was just a bit above the ground after which the third umpire ruled it in the favor of the fielding side.

Hardik Pandya couldn’t believe his luck as he took the long walk back to the pavilion after becoming the victim of the unfortunate dismissal. He could only score 5 runs after facing 7 deliveries in the first IND vs WI ODI.

After Pandya’s dismissal, Ravindra Jadeja was sent in at number 5 as the Indian team wanted their middle order batters to spend some time in the middle. On the other end, Ishan Kishan went on to smash 52 runs off just 46 deliveries.

Rohit Sharma came in to bat at number 7 and remained unbeaten along with Ravindra Jadeja as the two senior batters allowed the Indian team to chase down the target in just 22.5 overs with 5 wickets in hand in the first IND vs WI ODI.
