Pakistan bowler Haris Rauf is currently playing for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League 2023-24. The speedster was supposed to play the ongoing 3-match Test series against Australia but he pulled out of the Pakistan squad for his BBL stint. Meanwhile, Haris Rauf found himself becoming the butt of jokes, as he came out to bat without wearing pads in Melbourne Stars vs Sydney Thunder match on Saturday.

Melbourne Stars were batting first and in the last over of the innings, which was bowled by Daniel Sams, they lost three wickets in three balls. The first two wickets came on the 3rd and 4th balls of the over while on the hat-trick ball, Mark Steketee had to walk back after being dismissed run-out. As three wickets fell in quick succession, the no.11 batter Haris Rauf didn’t get enough time to get ready to bat.

As just one ball had remained in the innings and Haris had to take the non-striker’s end, he opted to walk out without wearing his pads. Carrying his gloves and helmet in his hands, he reached the crease. Upon his arrival, the umpire was seen having a word with him, however, he was allowed to take his position at the non-striker’s end even without his leg pads on. The commentators found the scenes hilarious and one of them went on to say “This is a circus”.

The situation could have turned more hilarious if Daniel Sams had bowled an extra delivery and Rauf would have ended up on the striker’s end. However, it didn’t happen. Jokes apart, if Haris Rauf had to take the strike, he would not have been allowed to bat without batting pads.

Talking about the match, Melbourne Stars posted 172 runs which Sydney Thunder chased in 18.2 overs. Haris Rauf bowled an economical spell of 3 overs, conceding just 20 runs but couldn’t provide a breakthrough to his side. The Pakistan pacer has played two matches in the BBL 2023-24 so far and he has remained wicketless in both games.
