Watch: Ireland’s Curtis Campher takes 4 wickets in 4 balls in T20 World Cup

The race for making it to the Super-12 Stage of the 2021 T20 World Cup is up and running. Teams ranked number nine or below in T20I rankings are fighting for a spot amongst the elite teams who will feature in the next phase of the World Cup. In total, eight teams are vying for 4 available spots, divided into two groups: Group A and Group B. All the teams in Group B have already played one game each, and today, Group A’s qualification race kicked off with Ireland taking on Netherlands.

Curtis Campher takes 4 wickets in 4 balls

2 for 51 around the nine-over mark, Netherlands were trying to recover from early blows when Curtis Campher was handed the ball. On the second delivery of the first inning’s tenth over, Ireland took a successful review and Colin Ackerman was removed at an individual score of 11.

What followed was an extremely rare occurrence as Curtis Campher bagged three more wickets in the next three deliveries, reducing Netherlands to 5 for 51. Veterans Ryan ten Doeschate and Scott Edwards were struck plumb for first-ball ducks before Van der Merwe inside-edged a full one onto his stumps, joining the duo with a golden duck of his own.

Ireland’s first T20 WC win over Netherlands

The Dutches were bundled out for a paltry 106 as Max O’dwod waged a lone war with his 47-ball-51. Mark Adair bowled an economical four-over spell, taking three important wickets while giving away just nine runs. Curtis Campher’s historical over saw him end his memorable spell with 4 for 26.

The chase turned out to be a cake-walk for Irelands as Gareth Delany top-scored with a stroke-filled 44. Fittingly so, it was Curtis Campher who hit the winning runs for the Irish team as Ireland registered their first T20 World Cup win over Netherlands. With Ireland still having 29 balls and seven wickets remaining, it was quite a dominant one.
