Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan hogged the limelight after he was seen bringing the big umbrella on the field in order to help his teammates Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill during the ongoing fixture against the Sri Lankan cricket team at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Sri Lankan skipper Kusal Mendis won the toss and invited Team India to bat first.

Dilshan Madushanka got rid of Indian captain Rohit Sharma (4) early on with a terrific inswinger in the second ball of the first over. Since then, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill assessed the conditions pretty well and went about their business. Sri Lankan bowlers found it literally tough to stop them. In fact, they had dropped a few chances to dismiss both batters. The duo capitalized on their new lifelines by taking the attack to the cleaners.

During the drinks break, an interesting incident featuring Ishan Kishan’s antics caught the attention of the fans. He was spotted bringing a big umbrella with him only to hold the handle firmly with his left hand. The fabric used in the umbrella cloth absorbs or blocks the sun’s rays, thus creating a shaded area underneath. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were seen comfortable sitting on a chair during the break. The duo were en route to score a century apiece but that wasn’t meant to be the case. Shubman Gill tried to chip the ball towards the third man for a boundary, only to be caught by the wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis. Gill missed out on a well-deserved century by 8 runs, which also brought the 189-run partnership to a close.

Shubman Gill struck 92 including 11 fours and 2 sixes. Virat Kohli had a great opportunity to score his 49th ODI century to level Sachin Tendulkar’s overall tally of 49 ODI tons. However, Dilshan Madushanka dismissed him with a tricky slow ball. Kohli made his way back to the dressing room after scoring 88 runs (11 fours).
