Jasprit Bumrah breaks stumps

It won’t be an exaggeration to say that Jasprit Bumrah has been one of team India’s finds of the decade. The lanky, Gujarat pacer burst into the international scene in 2016 in India’s tour down-under. Ever since, ‘Boom-Boom’s’ performance curve has been on a staggering rise. In his first ever World Cup last year, Bumrah complemented the fiery pace of Mohammed Shami with perfection, and emerged as the 5th-highest wicket taker with 18 wickets. His tally of 51 T20I wickets in 42 games has only been bettered by Yuzvendra Chahal. But just when you think of him as a one-trick, limited-overs pony, his stats in the test format convey the reality of his class. In 12 matches so far, Bumrah has scalped 62 wickets which include 5-wicket hauls across Australia, England, West Indies and South Africa. Fair to believe indeed; no exaggeration.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, the latter part of 2019 turned out to be a break period for the pacer with some injury layoffs. Thankfully, Bumrah has made steady recovery and is now back just in time to kick-start India’s year of cricket. The T20I home-series against Sri-Lanka commences on this Sunday with the opening match at Guwahati. As it is, the intensity levels  were high with the New Year celebrations and its aftermath. But with this video the BCCI released, the excitement for the upcoming series has certainly reached its crescendo.

Bumrah’s sensational delivery

The BCCI recorded some footage of the players warming-up at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium for the upcoming matches. Featured among those said players was Bumrah, who also appeared in an interview alongside bowling coach Bharat Arun. And fair to say, Bumrah produced the highlight of the session with this nerve-wrecking delivery he bowled. The ball barely skidded on the grassy surface, before it zoomed in to topple-down both the practice stumps. Here’s the tweet showcasing the scorching delivery:

The series against Sri-Lanka comes as a preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup later in October this year at Australia. Bumrah’s form will be a major-factor for the 2007 edition champions, as the team looks to win its first ICC silverware under captain Virat Kohli. Indore (7 January) and Pune (10 January) will host the remaining games of the series.
