Sri Lanka’s experienced campaigner Angelo Mathews became the major talking point on social media recently after his on-field antics forced Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan to make a timed-out appeal to the umpires. Several fans slammed Shakib Al Hasan for not taking the game in the right spirit since the veteran didn’t withdraw the appeal even after Angelo Mathews provided a clear explanation.
The all-rounder was not prepared to face the first ball within the mandatory two-minute time limit as the clock kept ticking even before the strap of his helmet appeared to be damaged. Mathews was concerned about his safety as he signalled towards the team’s dugout, requesting one of the members to bring another helmet. As it turned out, Shakib Al Hasan made an appeal and hence the umpires had to make the final.
Kane Williamson indulges in a friendly banter with Angelo Mathews
Angelo Mathews was trying his best to explain everything in detail but Shakib was in no mood to listen to him as he made an appeal, which was well within the rules of the game. Since then, things didn’t go well between Mathews and Shakib. In fact, the Sri Lankan took revenge by getting rid of Shakib in the same game and then came up with a timed-out celebration. Meanwhile, Kane Williamson made the headlines after he was involved in a friendly banter with Angelo Mathews at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
