KL Rahul had a lucky escape as the skipper and Pant were involved in a terrible mixup between the wickets.

The second ODI between India and South Africa went underway today with the Indian captain opting to bat first after winning the toss. The team got a good start, but lost two quick wickets in Dhawan and Kohli. Rishabh Pant came in at No. 4 to support the stand-in skipper KL Rahul. The duo had a terrible confusion while running for a single as KL Rahul lashes out at Rishabh Pant.

KL Rahul lashes out at Rishabh Pant

KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant had early hiccups as far as running between the wickets was concerned. Rahul had a very close call in the 15th over when Pant took off for a run after tucking the ball towards the mid-wicket region. Pant backed off, but KL Rahul had already covered the half distance and both the batsmen were stranded at one end.

To South Africa’s horror, their fielders made a mess of a straightforward run-out chance and KL Rahul had a lucky escape. Keshav Maharaj was the bowler collecting the throw at the non-striker’s end, but failed to grab the ball. Phehlukwayo who was backing up fumbled as well which gave more time to KL Rahul to return to the crease. Fortunately for team India, the skipper survived the run-out. Both KL and Pant notched-up a 115-run partnership which turned the momentum of the game in India’s favour.

KL Rahul went on to score crucial 55 runs for the team, but couldn’t make the most of the chances he got. Team India has lost 5 wickets at the time of writing this article and are in a spot of bother after losing KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant in quick succession after the drinks break. The team would want their lower order to contribute so they can get a competitive total and win the match to level the series 1-1.
